does anyone know the minimum hard drive speed for capturing dv footage?

People have been able to capture with a 5400 RPM drive, but faster is better if possible. You always want to take every step ness. to avoid data issues.

my hard drive in my Laptop is 5400, it does fine...

And lately ive been capturing live feed directlyto my Ipod, which cant be more that 4800. So even thats enough.

EDIT:
just checked the link above, yea you see. Ipod can do it.

Supposedly i heard a guy installd Linux on an Ipod. and jerryrigged a keyboard to the Connector on the bottom making it the smallest fully functional Computer ive ever seen. If it can really hold mass data rates, mayeb we can hack the firmware and set it up so that it records at least DV, HDV and least likely DVC pro. CAuse read speed and write speed is two different animals and having a HDD recorder with built on batteries and a backlit color screen would be FREAKING amazing. anyone wanna hack?

Yep, laptop drive will work. It's preferred to use a faster one with a bigger cache for long streaming sessions. Use a capture utility that allows you to monitor frame drops during capture. You'll be glad you did.
