External Hard drive woes

I have a SimpleTech external hard drive that decided to not work today. Everytime I connect the USB cable it says "USB device malfunctioned." Now I had some seriously important files on the drive. How can I get them back??

It could be just the enclosure thats bad...you can remove the drive and set it up as a second drive in your computer, unless its a laptop, and see if the hard drive will bee seen by Windows or Mac. If it seen and accesible than its the controller in the drive case. If you cannot see the drive than its the drive itself.

Shouldn't be that hard to remove the harddrive and as already mentioned set it up in your desktop or put it in another enclosure.

If you don't know how, try and find a friend to help or take it to a computer shop.

And it's not. I opened it, and wow... Yeah, not gonna happen. Doesn't even look built to work like that.

Well it had to have been put in there first place so it must be able to be removed. These drives do not have an infinate life...they are regular hard drives like in a computer. The manufacturer makes the drives to be removed and replaced. Go to thier site.
