external hard drive nightmare!!

I've been using an external hard drive to save my projects on but sometimes when I save things on it the files become corrupt and it sets me back. I was wondering if anyone new a way to get the files back?

I don't know b/c the files are corrupt and I don't know if there is even away to undo the corruption to the file. I've tried to save the project in multiple file names so it lowered the risk but it just caught up to me... please if anyone knows how to solve this problem let me know.

thanks

If the files were corrupted when writing to the drive, there is probably no hope.

However, if they were good files, there is a possibility that a failure on the boot sector or in the operating system might be causing the system to "forget" where parts of the file are.

First, I would recommend not doing anything on that disk (even on another partition) until you solve the problem. Don't save anything on it or delete anything from it.

Then use one of the programs on the Ultimate Boot CD (UBCD - search on google) which will allow you to boot into linux and allow you to (possibly) pull the files off properly even if windows cannot.

UBCD has a ton of free utilities for this kind of thing.

Good Luck!
