External Hard Drive for editing/Movie trivia bonus question

I've recently begun to hate external drives of any sort*. Too many damn wires going everywhichway. And, for some reason, mine keeps spinning down or something, making a Rrrrrrrrrrr noise in the speakers.


*Well, the drives we have mounted in rack enclosures at work are nice enough. It's just these stupid consumer drives that I hate. And what do I care if their cases were designed by Porsche?
 
Thanks for the info on PATA/SATA/FW tbanucci and the tip about Granite Digital! I'll check them out.

GenJerDan - Porsche Shmorsche. I'd get another Lacie is I could drive it with the top down.

BTW, I just gave you the link for Granite Digital because I happen to use hotswap drives and they are the best for this. I changed up all 13 of my old hot swap drives for these guys because the old ones would never actually "hot swap". They would just crash my system. They also had all kinds of failures and mishaps with the generic hotswap drives.

Having said that, you don't NEED a hot swap drive if you are just getting one external hard drive and plan on using just one. You can get a generic enclosure and use that which will cost about $30. I use a hot swap because I am working on 10 projects at the same time usually and also need to keep some active over a two year legnth.

haven't seen psycho in quite some time, but the first movie that popped into my head was forrest gump and to be honest it was on the AFI list of movie quotes and that line is attributed to forrest gump not pyscho...so what gives???

Hotswapping is convenient, so I'll be keeping that in mind.

I just double checked AFI's 100 Quotes list and that line is definitely from Psycho, although a few people did guess Forrest Gump. Maybe that line is in the movie, but it would probably be an homage to Psycho, which doesn't really seem appropriate, so maybe it's not in Forrest Gump?

you know maybe you're right, but i could've sworn it was in forrest gump...all i know is i watched the actual show with jonathan (riker) frakes as the host and i thought they showed forrest gump, but...i could be wrong i never saw forrest gump.
