I have an 80n gb external firewire/usb drive that I use on my PC...It is formatted in NTFS. My partner has a Mac system, editing on FCP. Can he format the drive on his Mac for use on his mac or do I have to format with my system in (FAT 32)?
I don't need both systems to share the drive, just the Mac.

Any input will be rewarded handsomely...

Thanks....Jeffro

he can format it. the mac will see both types : FAT32 and NTFS. the main problem with FAT32 is the file size limitation to 2 gb !
but since the drive is formatted in NTFS already he doesnt have to....

If you're going to be moving the drive back and forth on an even semi-regular basis, you might want to consider the software, MacDrive. Simply format the drive for a Mac and then run MacDrive on your PC. Its not that expensive, and if you want to be able to just format the drive once and keep flipping it back and forth between systems, you'll get your money's worth pretty quick.

Cheers.

If you don't need both systems to share the drive like the original post says then format it on the Mac, OS Extended.
