Check out www.afterdawn.com - not sure if they'd be able to help over there, but its more of a computer based forum than a filmmaking one. I know we have some computer savvy users here, but you're more likely to get quicker answers for hard drive questions and stuff there.

There are programs that you can buy or services that you can pay for that'll get your files back - depends on how badly you need those files.

EDIT: If you have it all on dvd then its not really a big deal...just pop the dvd (s) in your drive, have your harddrive connected - open up the dvd, press apple + "a" and apple + "c" and then open up your external hard drive and press apple + "v". Repeat until all files are successfully back onto harddrive.

on a pc i just right click on the files from the dvd and copy them. then right click on the external and paste. not sure if it's different on a mac.

I use FILE SCAVENGER 3 to recover software off dead drives (it retains file structure) but if you have partitioned it I'm not sure wether you still can recover those files.
