External Blu Ray Burners

Mac user and cheapskate here (oxymoron) looking for suggestions of a decent external Blu Ray burner. Bus powered would be cool but it's not 100% necessary. Anyone have good luck with a certain one? Also looking for leads on cheap printable media that doesn't suck.

Basically I'm looking for the best compromise of quality and price for both.

We recently had great luck using the LG BP06 from a MacBook Pro 17 and burning straight out of Final Cut Pro. Go to File, then Share, and from there you can build a simple DVD project. While limited in options, this has been a 100% reliable workflow for us, both 1080 and 720P discs.

Digistor Blu ray Burner is 179 and is excellent I have one of these and use it with encore it works great, search for it on amazon.

Too late, I pulled the trigger on a Sony one yesterday. I was thinking about that $110 Asus one but decided to spend a little more for a name brand. I'll post results in the next few days. Planning on using it with Encore. Now I just need to learn Encore.

What kind of speeds are you getting out of the Digistor cause the Sony I bought is only allowing me to burn at 1x through Encore on a mac. Anyone know how I can increase this? I thought I'd get 4x but apparently not.

I recently purchased a ASUS 12x burner. Im using it with ENCORE cs6. The Blu Ray disc burned with this unit will NOT play on commercial BR players. It plays perfect on the ASUS 12x. Any suggestion to what Im doing wrong. Im thinking maybe ENCORE did not "finalize" the disc. HELP

There's a million and one things that could cause that. Are you burning straight out of Encore? Are you playing the disc in an older BluRay player that hasn't had a firmware update? Have you tried other brands of BluRay media?

Ive got it working now....the only thing I did differently was to go the the drive via wilndow explorer and click "close session". Which may have done it. I did go buy a "home" Blu Ray player so that I could check things out. The BR disk works perfectly. Maybe I had a some bad discs OR the "close session" click, actually "finalized" the unclosed/finalized BR...........dunno. At least I have a way of confirming my BR will work on a home player. It only cost me an extra $200 to know that. hahah...When do we start "making" money in this business???? :)
