EXT= Me66 INT = Me64

Stumbled across this little bit of wisdom over at:

Now, I own the Me66 and am totally satisfied but completey agree that at times it does seem HOT as is being put (sensitivity and overdriving the dynamics of the audio-range) and someone mentions getting the Me64 for INTERIOR recording.

Anyone have any thoughts or experience on this matter? I am satisfied currently but admit that at times it seems not the perfect one for INTERIOR shooting.

Re: EXT= Me66 INT = Me64

John,

I like cardioids or hypercardioid mics over shotguns for recording in small interiors. The ME64/K6 records dialogue with less of a hollow reverb character than the ME66/K6 in small or sound reflective interiors. The ME66 is a bit more difficult to use because the rear lobe of the pickup patten tends to add sound reflecting off walls and ceilings to the direct sound the mic is picking up. You can minimize this with good recording techniques like using sound blankets and positioning of actors, but an easier solution is to go with a cardioid mic.

The ME66 is a high sensitivity mic--there are some pluses and minuses to that, but the DVX audio gain circuit is quite capable of handling the ME66 output. The ME64/K6 combination retains the high sensitivity and crisp, airy sound signature of the ME66/K6.

Thanks Barry. Although I am not currently budgeted to add to my sound package I will keep this in mind. And yes, I think 'sound blankets' are a great idea. Tks for the reply.
