Ext harddrive 2 pc's

I have two lacie big disk 500gb hard drives. One I am using for editing and it is mounted on a imac g5.

The other I am using for music/ scoring and it is primarily mounted on my ibook g4. This two PC set up is crucial for space in my room...

It is a big pain though when I finish a score on the G4 and ext hard drive 1 and want to move it into the g5. I have to unplug the maze and move it around to bring it into FCP.

I want to be able to look into the "music" hard drive on both computers. Is this possible?

I simultaneously ran a regular fire wire into the G5 and a firewire 800 into the lap top...but I can only succesfully mount the drive onto one computer at a time. Am I doing something wrong?
Is there some type of preference I can change?

Thanks

I wouldnt plug two computers into the same firewire drive, as far as I know one computer wont know what the other computer is writing/reading and may write/read over the others info. If I understand you, you want to be able to move your audio from one computer to the other once you are done working on it, I just have all my computers running through a router and I can easily transfer files, and with the macs can mount anydrive on any computer..
