Expose on Indian faces

I have just bought a Panasonic DVC PRO P2 172.

I am trying to get exposure right on people from India.

I am struggling to get exposure right. Does anyone have any tips?

I can change the Zebra settings manually. I think the default is 70% but that might be for white European faces???

Any tips much appreciated.

cheers

John:)

Well, every situation is different, depending on the drama, style, and individual.
When shooting on film I meter with the incident and then give it an extra stop, or 1 1/2 stop for really really dark skin, and avoid BG that will blow out.
So how that translates to zebras is open for interpretation, but I would think that your target would be between 50 and 60, typically. 70 is a pretty loose guide for caucasian skin, too.

what is the subject matter of your shoot?
doc style or sound stage controlled lighting?
also must specify skin tone as people from India cannot be generalized. If you look at any popular bollywood movie the lead actor and actress are usually light skinned, sometimes paler than most tanned caucasian skin tones...
people from the norther region like kashmir tend to have pale skin people from the south have darker skin tones...

Listen to shivrajs, there is a wide variety of skintones among Indians, almost as wide as the variation within Americans. The lightest-skinned northern Indians can be almost caucasian, and the darkest-skinned southern Indians can be darker than many African Americans.

pardon me.. this is the most off topic ever seen.. dvxuser news?? wth?? what's this?? most pop travesti in town?..
