exporting w/ alpha channel

alignment1

Well-known member
Hey all,

trying to export ,(render movie) w/ an alpha background out of AE CS3, so I can bring into FCP and lay over footage.

--take for example lower thirds graphics, if I render out movie, the background, (w/ no information) renders black.

Is there an easy way to create an alpha layer/adjustment layer, i.e. photoshop, or right in AE CS3

Thanks

Z

Have you tried using the Render Queue instead of Make Movie? Use the Render Queue and make it Animation + out of AE

so I didn't know what you meant by "animation +" but milked the cow for a little info and found: http://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/2/938586

ok so after adding to render cue-what I was doing wrong was in Video Output tab under Output Module Settings--I didn't have RBG + Alpha under the channel options, it defaults to RGB, then I can change Depth to Millions of Colors +, and of course format option as animation..

Sweet!!

Sorry lhdor, I need in laymen's terms---I appreciate your help though

Question for Alignment1.. (exporting Clear matte)

Question for Alignment1.. (exporting Clear matte)

Hey I am trying to do the same thing.. basically I keyed out the green screen and now I am trying to export it and then put it in Final Cut Pro. I have my background in Final Cut, so I need it to be clear or a matte that can dissapear. The subject is the only thing I want to import onto final cut, then I will add backgrounds once she is imported into Final Cut. Can you tell me the step by step way to do this? I went to render que and I tried some different settings, but I am still getting either a black or fuzzy background. Should I use Alpha or Lossless or something else to achieve what I am trying to get? I would really appreciate a response from someone. Thank you!

First time I have ever heard a clip called "she". Nice touch though.

Getting close, but I'm now getting a green halo in FCP

Getting close, but I'm now getting a green halo in FCP

I now can get it to be transparent in Final Cut Pro, but I am seeing a green halo around her head and shoulders. Everything is keyed out great in After Effects, but after doing the render que and animation RGB + alpha, it is causing a green line around her face and body. It's only looking like this once it's imported into Final Cut Pro. Any reasons why it's doing this?

Shooter, thanks... hopefully she will import better soon!

apple + m or Ctrl + m

get into your render que

click on output module

select RGB + Alpha and export

your background will look black, but when you bring it into FCP or AVID you will be able to see the tranparency only after you put something behind your video file. Black is the defualt color, it's not like in photoshop where they have the grey and white checkerboard...

Unfortunatly I am not at my computer right now, so I don't know the name of the tab, but try this maybe. Put it in the render queque, when you open the dialog box where you set your settings, i.e. checking off audio if you want it, there are two tabs at the top. Select the second tab and there should be an option to preserve RGB. Check that box and then try rendering it out. This may work.
