exporting Video for sound application

Hi I am trying to export my video to my soundman who is supposed to do the musicscore in his sound application (Pro Tools).

Now I have tried several codecs but none of them seems to work. I tried DVPal, which he could run in his sound application. But the file was too big (2 GB for 15 Min video) for his machine so he couldn't work with that. Then I tried the Sorenson 3 Co nverter to give him a smaller File Size. But he says he cant see a picture with it. I've also tried the to export with Compresor 1 and the 60Min best quality setting. His machine couldn't read it either.
Does anybody have any idea what to try? It's making me crazy as we already lost one week with this.

thanks a lot!

I haven't had problems with 2gb files or bigger on my pro tools rig. Maybe he's low on RAM. What is he running on? Mac or PC? What's your frame rate? I usually like to get DVC-NTSC..or something like that. As long as it's a DV movie for me. If it's something that doesn't work, I can always convert it with quicktime pro, which I've had to do several times. I would suggest your sound guy get quicktime pro, because in a situation like this, he can just convert it to what he needs, and won't cause any more stress for you. Also, He should know what he needs, and should to be able to tell you. If he doesn't know...then I'll keep my opinion to myself.....

Hi Dave,
thanks a lot for your answer! My frame rate is 25 (I am working in PAL). He has one Gigabyte RAM running on a PC (I am Mac).
I've passed all your information on to him (it's the first time he does the music for a movie - but he's a good musician with a lot of experience only not in this specific field, as soon as he has the video in his machine it shoudl be fine)

if he is using the video only as a refrerance, can't you just size it down to half and use something like DivX as a codec. All of the post sound work I do (i have only started to learn about audio rigs for future use and this forum has been a godsend) I chop the file down by half.

He is going to be exporting the final sound(s) out from there to be reassembled in something like Vegas right?

Well, I'm on a Mac, and PC's work differently. On my Mac, I usually get a DV movie, which I can output through the firewire port in pro tools on my Mac, but you can't do that on a PC, for whatever reason. I'm not a PC expert, so I can't really help you there. I would suggest your sound guy go to the DUC. That stands for the "Digidesign User Conference". That's a pretty good resource for help with trouble shooting. I use it all the time.
