Exporting to prevent sync issues - music video, dialogue, online, youtube, etc.

I have noticed that syncing seems to be hit and miss when exporting from Premiere and also when uploading online to platforms such as Youtube.

I am using Premiere and wondering if there is a way to guarantee that video exported is synced properly to audio. Is there something in the settings or an approach I need to use to do this in Premiere?

I also notice that some online platforms produce poor sync result such as Youtube. Is this avoidable, or is it dependent on the network or Youtube?

Thank you.

Are you sure the audio is in sync before you upload it? You also might want to view the video on another device or ask someone else to watch it to eliminate the possibility that its the method of playback that is at fault. For instance Bluetooth audio devices have a delay.

Hi Peter, so in your experience are you saying that if it is synced correctly when rendered, there should be no syncing issues or drifting when it is uploaded onto Youtube or played back in the computer or mobile devices?

I remember when it came to flash for example, you would need to ensure you rendered the flash file as stream than trigger otherwise there could be an issue of audio drifting to the movie/animation.

If your audio is captured separately to a digital recorder your editor might be able sync the beginning but it drifts out of time by the end. So first verify this isn't the case in the editor, then export it to check it again. Then upload and ask someone else to verify the sync. Another common reason there might be sync issues is when audio is recorded or exported at a different rate. The standard audio sample rate is 48 kHz. When encountering an issue make sure everything is set to it. Maybe your encoding to an outdated strange codec that Youtube doesn't like. There lots of possibilities. So the first step is narrow down where it is occurring.

The only time I've ever had this was when something on the timeline was hidden/muted and a different format - a bit of 44.1 audio on a 48k project even muted did it to me until I found it. It was maybe 4 seconds long, and contained no audio - it had been razor bladed off, but was still there. The track wasn't muted - but a play from the beginning messed sync up. other than that Premiere sync has always been totally solid.
