hey everyone -

pretty green with this sort of thing, so any guidance will help. i have to submit a bunch of promo material and wanted to include some high quality screen grabs. when exporting a frame as a TIFF, is there a way to up the dpi to anything greater than 72?

thanks!

To my understanding no. I've always known DV, regardless of DV25, DV50, or DV100, to be 72 dpi. I've done some grabs from the Varicam and they come out okay, but require a lot of time in Photoshop to make them worthwhile to print, at least in my experience. But if someone knows a way to extract a better still I'd definitely love to hear it as well.

cheers.

Studio Artist's Supersizer function does a fantastic job. Photoshop can up-rez to a point. But you'll really not get a super nice 300dpi out of a DV video frame still. You can get it to improve a bit, though.

The other option is to use something like Snapz X to do a screen grab from your computer monitor. Open the Canvas to 100 percent, enlarge the window fully, take a higher than 72dpi rez shot. Not the same, but an option.

Ummm.... 72 DPI is just a reference number for printing; the image exported always has the full resolution of the video source. There's no trivial way to get more resolution out of the video than the native frame size (the ubiquitous "enhance!" on TV/movie spy shows notwithstanding).

The software recommended above is a good start... but you have a basic limitation (the original image resolution) which ain't easy to overcome. Use a bunch of small screenshots?
