exporting still shots

strange, but when working in dvcprohd from my hvx, fcp exports still shots in 4:3.

is this a bug in the software? or user error? anyone know what's up with this?

Is the shot stetched? I'm assuming it is. Can you not export in settings you can select? I haven't done it in a while, so I can't remember.

it's originally a 16:9 shot, but FCP smushes it to 4:3 when exporting....can't figure this one out

I believe that is just one of the annoying perks of FCP. At least it has always exported my stills a 4:3 ratio as well (since there is no way to specift ascpect ratio when exporting stills - just movies). What I do is open the stills in PhotoShop and stretch them out. It is annoying, but I haven't found a better way. If you do, let me know too.

You might need to bring back into Photoshop and change the canvas size there to something that reflects 16:9

EDIT -- Chris beat me to it.

thanks for the info guys, it's wierd that this happens. I assume it's related to how FCP processes the dvcprohd clips, because if you look at the clip information, it lists the resolution as 960 x 720, instead of 1280 x 720, even though the clip is really the latter.

oh well, for now, I just use Grab to get a screenshot. I just need it to show clients a quick image, but assume a real export from FCP would be best.

k, thanks everyone!
