Exporting Sequences For A Dvd

Hi,

Wondering if anyone has some advice to expedite this process the best. I'm working on a doc. and I've cut down most of the footage shot into 10 sequences. They all vary in time from around 15 min to 75 min. I'd like to provide the clients with a DVD for their viewing. I don't want to sit around and wait for each sequence to export. Is there a fast way to do this?

The big issues I'm having are with exporting the sequences. I've added the TIMECODE reader on each seq. Each sequence has a green line above it, signaling i need to render. I thought that I could export the seq. as QT ref files. Then drop em in to iDVD. Not working out as well as I thought. It's taking a very long time to make the DVD and I'm not able to fit much on them, toboot.

Can anyone advise me on the best protocol to follow?

Thanks,

Do you happen to own dvd studio pro??

If so, you can export one sequence of the entire movie, then give it chapter markers for each section.

then, on the dvd whoever watches it can watch it as a whole, or go to any section they wish.

You're gonna want dvd studio pro if you don't have it. that way you can use compressor to make a nicely compressed mpeg-2 that'll fit on a dvd no problem.

Hey,

Thanks for the reply. I do have DVDSP. I've been playing around with it but haven't had any luck burning a DVD successfuly. It's my first go round with the app. I'm used to IDVD, I'm sad to say. I took my sequences and ran them through COMPRESSOR. The batch was fine and i had no errors. I imported these assets into DVDSP and created a pretty poor menu, which didn't work.

I'd like to take it a step further and design a menu, but for now, I just want to be able to play each sequence seperately. It looked fairly obvious but I'm doing something wrong. Is there an easy way for me to create a DVD without really getting technical or having to create a detailed menu. I managed to utilize a template, assigned a movie to each button, but i don't think i'm assigning all the correct options to the clips.

Can you recommend a tutorial or anything? Thanks again,

I just usually screw around with whatever application I'm using until it works. So, in DVDSP I'd try different options then test them in the simulator to see if they work.

My DVDSP is a hack version so I don't have any template or menus to begin with.

Here's what I'd do if I was in your shoes:

Put a picture that represents the project well and have it as my main menu background.
Add a 30 second clip of music from one of the films as music for this main menu.

Have 2 buttons on this page.
1) play entire doc
2) doc index(or title it something appropriate).
- this is going with the idea you exported one complete sequence with all the docs included one after the other.
(3 - if you have extras)

Import your entire movie into the assests folder.(your compressed mpeg)

Double click Track 1 in the Contents area, then drag your entire movie clip onto the track. Do the same with the audio if it doesn't automatically do it.

Then, add chapter markers everywhere you'd start a new doc until every doc has a chapter marker.(leave chp1 at the beginning, make ch2 the first switch over movie)

On your main menu, double click the play entire doc button. It will open the button window. You will see Target near the top. Click on it. Then scroll to where you see Tracks&Stories, then click on where it says Track 1.

that button is now assigned to Track 1 and will play the entire movie.

For the movie index button, make a new menu, Menu 2.(you can rename menus to whatever you wish, just make sure that menu1 is your main menu and you won't have much troubles)

Double click to open button window. Click Target, scroll to menus, assign Menu 2.

Put a good picture on this menus background, add music if you wish, but not necessary.

Treat this like any scene index you see on dvd's you rent, but tailor it for your individual movies.
I'd have the titles of each movie, with the running time. I'd have them in chronological order in which they appear in the entire movie.

If you can fit them all on this page, if you can't, just make another menu, creating a button that will go to this page(title it more or something like that)

each titled movie will be a button. Double click, then click target - Tracks&Stories - Track 1 - then whatever chapter they are assign that chapter.

Also add a back button to this and any other additional pages. Have this back button targetted to Menu 1.

This should make you a decent dvd that is easily navigated.

Click on the simulator and check out if everything works. If it does, and you like, click BUILD on the top bar. This will make the dvd ready for burning. Then if you want to burn one, click FORMAT. follow the instructions, burn a dvd.

hope this is of help.

Thanks a bundle....

Thanks a bundle....

You got it goin' on. I was really close, but it was what i was telling DVDSP to do that messed up my DVD's. Can't thank you enough for your assistance and helpfulness in me getting this done, or at least started.

Cheers,
