exporting problems and Nero?

I am using Adobe Premier Pro
I shot a film in 24pa (letterbox) on a 100b
I imported it on a panasonic 3ccd camcorder
edited it all and exported my move to a Microsoft dv avi (this is the best quality?)

The exported movie is ok quality (not what it looks like in premier)
it also squeezed even more (vertically) than a normal letterbox, like it added an extra letterbox... maybe it thinks its wide screen... but...
when fades occur the frames unsqueez to what they should look like, then they resqueez... This does not happen in premier.

I used Nero to put it onto a DVD (bad idea?) The file in the directory is 3.5g and when i put it into nero its 1.2 on the disk... For the life of my i could not find where or if nero was compressing the video - any dvd burning suggestions other than nero? if thats the problem?

Thank you for any responses!

the avi should be the same quality as the raw footage seeing as how premiere capture DV footage as avi..... If your saying it squeezed it I would double check your export settings.

also if the project is letter boxed than I assume you used a standard 4:3 project? make sure your exporting at the same 4:3 resolution.

Nero works good for me although it does compress to fit onto the disk.... check your setting in nero too. You could also use premiere and export to DVD.

Ummm NO... It recompresses it a second time. Compressed format + Compressed Format = 2nd Generation/Compressed.
The idea is to export in an uncompressed format or use the media encoder and go directly to MPG.

If I were to use the Media encoder I would be changing the format right? loss of quality? Which format would I use to get the highest quality?

I dont understand why it compresses the video only during non transitions (cross fades).
