Exporting high res frames...

I have a project that I shot on my DVX 100B. My client wants me to use a frame from the video for the DVD menu, but I can't get it to export at a resolution that they want. Can SD video export high resolution frames? Basically, it looks a little pixelated and grainy...is there a solution to this?

Thanks.

It can not export any higher than the rez of the Project which of course should be the same as the rez of the source material.

BTW - should be able to handle a DVD cover.

What settings would you use? I'm exporting to a TIF file and it seems about as good as can be.
Thanks,
Andrew

When you find the frame you want, go to file, export, frame & premiere exports the frame as a bitmap image (the res is exactly the same as your footage). Bring the bitmap image into photoshop & do with it what you like.

(I'm sure you already know that but I thought I'd mention that for the sake of any viewers who may not).

There are times when I have exported frames that are not exactly up to snuff. Sometimes. If thats the case I usually just export another frame & all is well.

Like any file you export, such as tiff or gif, the resolution can take a bit of a hit. JPEG works the best for me as it keeps the res maxed.

You have a few options. Tiff or Targa would be your best bets as both are types of uncompressed bitmaps. Whatever the compression or codec your project is in will be exported exactly as is with no further compression. JPEG is heavily compressed (no matter what the settings) and will add another layer of interpolation to your image.

Tiff, TGA, JPEG, GIF (un-usable for your current purpose) etc.. are all versions of bitmaps.

The good news is that the DVD menu (if it is to be displayed on TV etc...) will also be 72 dpi, the same as what you are looking at.

My quick recommendation without seeing the image is to export as tiff or tga, bring into photoshop or other highend image editing program. Do cleanup or CC there if needed (or wanted) and create your menu BG. Save as tiff or tga and bring back into your authoring program.
