Exporting HD sequence for PAL DVD - best practices?

Hi all,

I've searched in the forums, but can't seem to find a comprehensive answer... If I've missed it, I apologize for starting a redundant thread.

I'm on CS5.5, and I have a 1080p/23.976 sequence that's ready to go to DVD, and the client got in touch with me to let me know they also need a PAL copy. I can send it to Encore via dynamic link, and select PAL (wide) as the preset, but then it's very slightly pillarboxed, which I'd like to avoid.

So my questions:

Is there a way to resize a sequence/clip in Encore? The consensus seems to be that I can't.

If not, what are best practices for exporting a 23.976 timebase sequence for PAL DVD, avoiding (to the extent that we can) interlacing artifacts, pillarboxing, and time-based screwups?

Thanks so much!

Paul

Most PAL DVD players will play an NTSC disk just fine. I'd recommend explaining that to the client and just send NTSC, rather than forcing a frame rate conversion (which will need an accompanying 4% shift in audio playback speed).

Don't convert to pal not only you will have to deal with the framerate, the audio but also the resolution, the colour, just send a ntsc disk.
