Exporting GH2 footage from Premiere Pro CS5

I haven't made videos since the days when FCP 1 and mini-DV tapes were cutting edge. I am very very slowly becoming familiar with the current terminology and understand very little. So if anyone can help please use words that an 8 year old would understand.

I have just bought a Panasonic GH2 and am playing around with it in Premiere Pro CS5 on an iMac. To date I have just used the 1080i/50 format and have looked at 1080p/24 even though I am in the UK. Within Premiere the footage looks very good, but I am hopelessly confused about exporting.

If I go to export/media the default setting is Quicktime at 720x480 which doesn't look so good. If I click on the button Match Sequence Settings, Mpeg is chosen as format but all presets etc. are greyed out. It also states that the quality if set for 50% and the slider to increase quality is also greyed out - why?

For looking at footage on a computer what is the best export setting to use? The presets and formats available mean nothing to me at all.

Any help gratefully received.

pflower,

I'm not familiar with CS5 very well and I can't help you., but I think you should change the title of your posting to something like "GH3 coming" or "Red Scarlet is out! " and you will get more chances to get answers to you questions :)

I am actually having the opposite problem I can't import anything from the GH2. I know its pretty simple and my sd card shows up under Media Browser and all the files show up but when I click them I get an error message "The file has an unsupported compression type". I don't know if it has to do with me running the demo version but I doubt it and PP CS5 is up to date.

I remember AVCHD was disabled in the demo version of CS4, it might be for CS5 as well

That's what I thought also, I mean its pretty straightforward and simple. Its silly for them to disable it, I mean how can we test it isn't it a demo for customers to try???
