Exporting for a local network (Broadcast)

Ok, so we are editing in FCP 2 using DVCPRO HD 720p60p (codec). We also shot in 16x9. I also know that, you have to talk to your local networks about their specifications for that particular network. So, I'm editing this commercial for a local business and I'm almost done with it. So here are my questions.

When I export it, How do I go about exporting it?

When I export it, should I export it to a digitabeta tape from FCP?

What kind of questions should I ask the network when It comes to this type of thing?

What is the turn out of I shoot 16x9 for a 4x3 network? is there ways to export as a 4x3 but still look like a 16x9 image when playback?

If there is any questions I'm missing, please fill free to ask...

Thanks,

I do a lot of commercials that are broadcasted here and every network has diffrent settings and one thing its gonna be 4x3 if you are broadcasting it has to be 4x3 at 30 fps, you need to contact the boradcasting company and get the exact specs they require, some have you turn in a dvd others have you upload the file to a ftp site, it just varies, sizes too that varies too, some ask for 640x480 others ask for 720x480, cadecs vary too, some ask for mpeg2 some ask for .mov uncompressed, you just need to call the people that are in charge of putting your commercial on tape so that it is broadcasted, hope this helps

yeah that helps, thanks man. One more question. I have access to a post-house and we have digitabeta machines to put on tape..what are the chances that they would want it on a digitabeta tape?

In my experience - the chances are pretty slim.
But, it all depends on your market.

Where I am, every local station is still running of BetaSP except for one lone rebel that switched over to DVCPro for production years ago - but even they take their dubs in on BetaSP.

But you never know until you call and ask.
Just ask for the production department (don't try to talk to whomever answers the phone, or the sales rep for the account...they won't know what tell you).

yeah I agree with luis, digibeta is for the high end commercials, like if you were doing to put commercial on mtv or a commercial that is going to be broadcasted with the real deal networks then yeah they will ask for a digibeta and very soon (couple of years maybe) a HD file when everything goes HD
so in a wrap if your commercial is not gonna be broadcasted all across the nation chances are you dont need digibeta, hey by the way how much does that production house that you are friends with charge for a 5 minute digibeta transfer? from a dvd
