Exporting FCP video with alpha channel

i have some bluescreen footage i keyed in FCP and need to export it out so that I can give it to a client. how do you export out of FCP this way?

i'm using FCP 6.

Also ProRes 4444 if they're on a Mac or a PSD image sequence. Most animation/FX folks greatly prefer image sequences to flattened movies BTW.

thanks guys

i exported out as animation but it still has a black background attached to it...am i missing something?

the client has asked me to do the edits, which consists of just adding some backgrounds, animation and text effects using after effects , but after exporting out of FCP it has a black background when bringing it into after effects....anything i am doing wrong?

When you are exporting are you making sure you are using the "Millions of Colors+" option in the export dialog box? The "+" means it includes an alpha channel.

yep that is what i've been doing. is there another step? i was thinking when i brought it into after effects the background would be transparent or i could turn the RGB channels to alpha and i'd be able to see everything on the layers below it......no?

Haven't worked in AE for awhile and am not at a computer with it installed so am just going by fuzzy recall here and can't really help you out with the details, but...

Have you tried Interpret Footage for the alpha channel in AE? Right-click on your clip in AE and choose Interpret Footage -- you should see some choices for Alpha Channel interpretation at the top. Try selecting between those and see if it helps.

Also, make sure your Composition window is set to display the alpha channel as transparent. Maybe this is automatic - can't recall.
