Exporting Cropped 16:9

What is the best way to export standard DV shot 4:3 and cropped in FCP to fit in an anamorphic timeline? When i export to quicktime movie with "current settings" with the "anamorphic" box checked, it exports in standar 4:3 format with a squeezed image, so I experimented a little, changing aspect ratios in the export settings (854x460 for example), but kept on getting strange vertical stepping on some parts of the image that would not show up if i changed the resolution of the squeezed 4:3 file to stretch the image and display 16:9.
So, lets say i shot on a DVX, 4:3, then cropped it in FCP to fit on a 16:9 anamorphic timeline (scaling to 133) and i want to get a 16:9 raw quicktime export of my project, for backup or showing on a computer/projector. What would be the best way to achieve this?

Thanks in advance

If you're Sequence is 16:9, just export as is, don't touch any aspect ratio settings. Just Export > QuickTime, make it Self Contained, leave it set to "Current Settings", that's all. If you check the Anamorphic box, you are in fact telling QuickTime to squeeze what it has down to 16:9, even if it's already 16:9, so don't do that.

the problem is that when i do that, and export as self contained with current settings, it just exports a 720X480 4:3 DV aspect ratio.

i shot standard 4:3 DV, imported with advanced pulldown easy setup. The sequence settings are: DV 3:2 720x480 frame size
Pixel aspect ratio is dv NTSC 720x480 with the anamorphic checkbox checked
compressor is dv/dvcpro ntsc

Anamorphic is 4:3 native in SD. If you want to export a "16X9" QT movie it needs to be in a 16:9 ratio like 854X480. Uncheck the anamorphic box and make sure the pixel ratio is set to square in the custom export settings menu. Click the advanced box and make sure it's 16:9.

If you shot regular 4:3 and imported into an anamorphic timeline your footage is going to look screwy no matter what. If you shot regular 4:3 and letterboxed it you should have done so within an UN-anamorphic timeline. Just make a new sequence that's not anamorphic and copy and paste the sequence into it.

FCP will not remove the letterbox if you want to........I give up. Good Luck.
