Exporting as DivX (or any other codec)

Wish I were banned.
I have the free version of the DivX codec, and I have set that to be the codec used when rendering. I change all the settings by clicking configure, and hit ok. I get a pop-up that says "error wihle converting codec."

I get that message every time I try to use a codec that didn't come with Vegas. Is there a way to fix this so I can use other codecs out of Vegas? I know I can't export as H.264, but I thought I'd be able to use some other codecs free.
