Exporting and importing back

Let us say I have a bunch of small clips in a sequence. Can I export the sequence as a QT movie, and import it back? The main concern is - will I lose some quality in the process? I am assuming I should keep the settings as current settings (1920 x 1080 for my Sony EX1).
