exporting a 23.98 timeline for legacy dvd players

I wish to export a 23.98 timeline from fcp into compressor and have it play on older dvd players. When in compressor, I have changed the progressive selection to interlaced, and am assuming that I must also change the frame rate to 29.97.

When viewing the end result on a 'newer' dvd player, generally, things don't look very different, with the exception of some fades that look a bit pixelized.

My main question is do I have to change to a 29.97 frame rate in compressor or can I keep it at 23.98 interlaced and still have it play on older dvd players?

Thanks in advance.

The problem with older DVD players isn't the 24p vs 29.97 issue as Noah mentioned. They will add the pulldown on the fly to a 24p DVD if 24p playback is not possible. The problem is more likely with DVD-R. Older/cheaper players can have issues playing back DVD-Rs. There's nothing you can do about that except to have your disc pressed professionally. Not a cheap solution though.

cheers.
