exporting 24pA to mini DV? useless?

Hi everyone,

This is a multi-part question. We have shot a movie using the 24pA setting. We have all the footage edited in a 23.98 timeline. We're going to try and bring it into an Avid with an uncompressed and Animation codec to output to Beta.

My big question is we would also like to export to mini-DV for backup at the screening (and just to test). Is it defeating the purpose to export a 23.98 timeline to Mini-DV. Can I use any camera to capture it (or would that put it back at 29.97)? or should I hook up the DVX and record it at 24pA again?

Here's the biggest question...does this make any sense?

We're on a tight time schedule and would really appreciate replies from people who have successfully performed this output.

Any output to Beta solutions would be welcomed too...

You need to put a pulldown back on it. You can do this under the RT menu on the timeline.

Choose 3.2 to add a viewable pulldown cadence for review or add a 2.3.3.2 cadence if you are going to remove it again on a different system.

Good luck,

I think that is what he answered. Just print to tape using 3:2 (not 3223) if it is for playback. (Use 3223 if you want to easily remove the pulldown again, but it sounds like your "backup" would be to play from the MiniDV tape, in which case you want to print to tape using 32 only).
