Exporting 1920x1080p to DVDSP

I apologize in advance because I know this has been asked before but I am not getting the results that I am looking for.

My question is:

What codecs is highly recommended for Canon 7D 1920x1080p 24p converted from H.264 to Prores422HQ to export from FCP to DVD Studio Pro.

Do I use compressor? Export from FCP first then go the DVDSP? I am really lost.

I attend the AI Seattle and they told me it's best to export to "DV NTSC 48kHz" which I think is wrong if I'm exporting HD to SD DVD.

I have my doubts with this school already and most of my knowledge comes from this helpful forum!!

Thank you and I apologize to have ask this question again.

Export a QT movie...make it a REF movie (meaning not self contained, you will only be using this for Compressor). Import that into Compressor. Choose one of the DVD presets...compress it. Then take it into DVD SP.

Know that this will make an SD DVD, not an HD one. Not BluRay.

#42 - Quick and dirty way to author a DVD

Shane's Stock Answer #42 - David Roth Weiss' Secret Quick and Dirty Way to Author a DVD:

The absolute simplest way to make a DVD using FCP and DVDSP is as follows:

1. Export a QT movie, either a reference file or self contained using current settings.

2. Open DVDSP, select the "graphical" tab and you will see two little monitors, one blue, one green.

3. Select the left blue one and hit delete.

4. Now, select the green one, right click on it amd select the top option "first play".

5. Now drag your QT from the broswer and drop it on top of the green monitor.

6. Now, for a DVD from an HD source, look to the right side and select the "general tab" in the track editor, and see the Display Mode, and select "16:9 pan-scan."

7. Hit the little black and yellow burn icon at the top of the page and put a a DVD in when prompted. DVDSP will encode and burn your new DVD.

THATS ALL!!!

NOW...if you want a GOOD LOOKING DVD, instead of taking your REF movie into DVD SP, instead take it into Compressor and choose the BEST QUALITY ENCODE (2 pass VBR) that matches your show timing. Then take THAT result into DVD SP and follow the rest of the steps. Except you can choose "16:9 LETTERBOX" instead of PAN & SCAN if you want to see the entire image.

Does compressor do that much better of a job at encoding the QT reference file than DVDSP itself?

Hello all, I was trying to figure how to make it but for a PAL dvd since i am in PAL land

my problem is that i filmed with a dvx100 in Sqeeze mode for one angle then the Canon 7D as another angle Canon 7D is 24p 1980x1080P

when i edit in FCP 7 do i make it a canon 7D setting or the dvx100 setting?

This will be on DVD as the end product

Thanks

I'm pretty sure you'd have to conform the 24p footage from the 7d to 25p in cinema tools. Converting one progressive framerate to another usually looks pretty bad, and this would look especially bad because the blended frames would phase in and out since you only are adding one frame every second. If you're willing to increase the speed of the 7d footage by 4 percent, just do a conform; other than being slightly faster it will look natural.

If you're outputting to a SD DVD, I wouldn't use the sequence settings that are ideal for the 7d. That's gonna make the DVX footage get uprezzed and then downrezzed, whereas a SD timeline would just cause the 7d footage to get downrezzed.

Thanks for the Quick reply !

I forgot to metion that the dvx was in 24P cinelike thin mode does that mean i still need to conform the 7D framerate to 25P
