Exporting 16x9 24F turns into 4x3?

New FCP user here. I have loaded clips @ 1080 24f from a Canon A1. When I export as a QT file or PIC it converts it to 4x3 and not 16x9. I have tried different export settings and nothing seems to work. Am I missing something easy?

Check your pixel aspect ratio. It you're rendering it out as 1920 x 1080 then PAR should be 1. If rendered as 1440 x 1080 then it should be 1.33.

QT won't recognize the anamorphic flag so you'll need to manually enter 1920x1080 as the export res. In the case of stills you'll need to resize them in an app like Photoshop after export.

The raw footage is not 1920 x 1080. It's 1440 x 1080 with a PAR of 1.33.

So should I export at 1440x1080? I will try both ways and see what happens. Also a question about digitizing - I bring in footage with the 1080 24p easy set-up and chose "all frame rates." Should I choose a frame rate and is it really 24p or just leave it "all rates."

You should export it as 1920x1080 because QT assumes square pixels (so if you export it 1440x1080 it will look distorted).
