Exporting 16:9 in Quicktime

Hey, I'm trying to export a video shot with anamorphic lens for web download. The sequence settings in FCP are set to anamorphic, so all is fine in FCP. I've tried exporting with Compresser and also with Quicktime Conversion and in both cases the video comes out 4:3 and squeezed. In Quicktime Conversion I've gone to settings > size and chose NTSC - 720 x 480 - 16:9, still no luck.

What part am I not getting? I understand that footage shot with an anamorphic lens is still technically 4:3, but how do I get Quicktime to stretch it in export?

Thanks.

Hm, sounds weird. I shoot anamorphic, with my dvx, I don't have an adapter. And I do what you do and I get what I want. So it works for me. What you can do is instead of using the 720 X 480 - 16:9 preset, try going to 'Custom'. Type in 720 X 480 your self and see what happens.

Or send the project to motion (Control click- send to Motion)

Thats my "two cents"

PS. Remeber when I said, type in 720 x 480 your self? Try 720 X 380...It looks nicer :)

Okay, I'm still not getting it right! I've read the manual, i've nested my sequence, I've done everything I can think of and still what I get is a kind a of bastard of 4:3 and 16:9. What's the buzz, tell me what's-a-happening? I love all things Apple and Mac, but this is making me feel like I just bought an i-Phone. Take a look and tell me what you think: http://busno8.com/CA/CA Sample.mov

If you want to use Compressor then just make a custom preset. Go into the Inspector and build a preset for your 16:9 output. If you want to keep it at 720 then it will letterbox and you need to either live with the letterboxing or apply a crop to make it like 720x3?? (I forget the exact values). You can just look at the preview as you adjust the crop and figure it out. Or if you want it a full 480 tall, then make the width as 854.

Also, if you've created a QT movie that you're happy with, but that is just the wrong dimensions (so looks like raw Anamorphic Squeeze 4:3 footage), just open in QT, go into the Movie properties (Video Track, Visual Settings, turn off preserve aspect ratio), adjust it to 854 in there. Then close the Movie, and when closing it will as you to save the changes. Hit yes. Voila.

Cheers.
