Exporting 16:9 footage

I am trying to export footage that I took with anamorphic lense through Premier. When I export to 4:3, the quality comes out HORRIBLE, and the image get more squeezed than it should (it becomes a little distorted). I export to 16:9, and it comes out stretched vertically just the way it would look on the camera with the anamorphic on it. I tried a million ways, I'm geting frustrated with it. Has anyone had a similar problem? is it Premier or am I doing something wrong? I have Avid and Vegas, I'm thinking to switching to either one, but I am more familiar with Premiere...
I would appreciate any help.
Thank you
Moe

adjust the vertical and horizontal pixel numbers
usually set at 720x480 or something like that... maybe increase the horizontal?

I did, and it does render the movie with the correct proportions, but the quality is not that good... I am not compressing it. This is really puzzeling me! I bet it will end up being something stupid! :)

i have this exact problem, when i export in widescreen mode,,, its not widescreen! just squashed so it will look wide and a widescreen tv!

I have prmier pro 1.5 I tried exporting as quick time and AVI. I tried using no compressor another time I used MPEG-4. Quality is always set on 100% size 720 X 405. it exports the movie and everything is fine, only the quality is HORRIBLE! I still can't figure out why! :(

If you’re running XP SP2, make sure you have latest Update for Adobe MPEG (look for key word: KB886716 in downloads):

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...1d-4377-4ee5-979d-495febeef95c&displaylang=en

Than make sure you have the latest update of Mainconcept encoder:

http://www.mainconcept.com/adobempeg/downloads.html

Than try rendering using the following method:

File > Export > Adobe Media Encoder >

For FORMAT select MPEG2

For Preset, select NTSC MPEG-2 Generic

Change aspect ratio in Video to what your working with and off you go. See if the quality is any better.

Okay, lets backup. What’s the quality of your exports without the anamorphic? Have you tried it lately? Take some sample footage without the lens on and render to MPEG2 as described above. What does it look like? How are you viewing it?

Let’s assume you’re getting great 4:3 renderings without the anamorphic.

Now throw on the lens and repeat the identical steps only change aspect ratio. What does it look like? Still horrible?

If so, please try to describe the horrible look a little better: Jagged horizontal lines, blurry, stretched or squeezed, muddy, etc.

When I export without changing the original dimensions, the quality comes out good (864 x 480).
I'm getting this problem when I resize to 720 x 405. look at the grabs below.

hmmmm, have you tried to mess with interlaced? you can deinterlace within PPro (right click on clip > field options > ) or at time of Adobe Media Encoder in Pre Encoding Tasks. I find sometimes one method produces different/better results than the other.

with BlueSpidey on the case, the mystery will undoubtedly be solved soon!

Moe, that clip is 720x480 and it already has compression artifacts. ? ?? Is this the original clip size? Did you shoot the original with an anamorphic adapter? ?? My DVX doesn't shoot widescreen , so I can't experiment on my own. ?

Bluespider, this is the original footage size, I shot with an anamorphic lens. I had to make the clip mpeg4 to fit on my server. Try to export this footage as 720 x 405 and see what happens.
Keith, the link is working for me, just right click and save.

Moe, that's why you're probably having that resolution problem. You're not supposed to export this out or anything out to 720x405. I exported this out 720x480 and went under motion and rescaled the vertical rest to something like 80% and horizontal to 90%. Something like that and everything looked fine. I've never heard of anyone exporting their footage to 720x 405. ? Plus I don't have a true widescreen TV. I have to encode it on DVD.
