Exporting 1080i mpg to DVD

I have a 2 hour 1080i mpeg2 file that I captured from an OTA broadcast. I've gone into Premiere and only done straight cuts basically to add black where commercials would have been. And I've added some audio and what not, but no extra video.

The resulting timeline is now just over 3 hours long with just long periods of black in between. I'd like to output this now to a dvd, but I know Adobe's encoder is pretty crappy when resizing interlaced content. (this was a live broadcast so I know it's pure interlaced content).

I've tried using Debugmode Frameserver but it's super slow...less than 2fps when encoding.

Is there anyway to get premiere to just output a straight mepg2 file without re-encoding the whole thing, kinda like how VideoRedo works, it only reencodes where there was an edit.

Ideally I would like to get a 1080i mpeg2 file back out, and then I can use the program of my choice to encode it to dvd.

yes there is, the mainconcept premiere plugin (not free) . It allows you to smart render mpeg2 (like videoredo)

Download (free) mpegstreamclip from "Squared5" it does most conversions, and may allow you one that will compress to DVD. You are cutting it close with that length of footage. Luck.
