Export to XML without using FCP

I upgraded to FCPX but it has disallowed me to open or install FCP7. We all know you cannot access old project files to the new one and I need them to become an XML so I can get them converted to FCPX. This may be a dumb question, but is there a way or program where you can export your project file to an XML without doing it in FCP? Thanks.

Having FCPX installed should not stop you from installing or opening files with FCP7. Mine certainly doesnt, noting you can not have both open.

Unfortunately theres no way to create an XML file from a FCP7 project file. You physically need to open it an export the XML. There are two programs which accurately let you transfer xml suitable from x to 7 to vice versa. Appropriately called 7toX and Xto7.

That's odd, when I installed X, FCP7 would not even open anymore. I tried re installing it but it told me a version already existed so I completely uninstalled FCP7. I then tried to install it but it told me the same thing. I have been told that they I need to change the name so they are not named the same thing. That would make sense but still confused how it still did not work for me. Thanks for the info.

You might have to reset everything. The first few versions of X would kill a FCP7 install.

Uninstall all.

Reinstall 7 - update to latest version.

Install latest version of X and all should be ok.

Thanks for the info Noel, sounds good.
