Export To Dvd...

I have several hours of RAW footage which I would like to export to DVD. Quality is not of major concern because I will keep the miniDVs handy. Its just that along with my sisters wedding video, I would also like to give her a DVD of all the raw footage.

Last night I set my computer up to convert all of my footage to DVD. I knew I was asking PREMIERE a LOT because it is several hours. It took 24+ hours to do and all looked fine (I didn't have any error messages), but my DVD player, nor my computer will recognize the DVD. In other words, it didnt work.

I'd like to try this again. Does anyone know if there is a cutoff point, number of hours of footage (amount of gig information) that PREMIERE can acceptably handle or is capable of compressing enough to fit on a single DVD?

Thanks...
Rick

dont put more than 2 hours on a single layer dvd of 60i footage, the compression will be to hihg and some dvd players have trouble playing dvds with bitrates that are too low and bitrates that are too high you ahve to find a middle ground. Use constant bitrate for faster encoding since you dont care about quality. buy doble sided or dual layer dvds to squeeze everything into one dvd.

i wouldn't use premiere to output to DVD, it doesn't always work and it can take a long time with little update on what's happening and how much time you have left, if i were you ake it out mpeg-2 or even AVI and burn it through a simple DVD authoring software, encore would take a while to set up for that, but like sonic or roxio, that always works, but don't ue premieres DVD output.

consumer dvd-authoring programs IMO are more frustrating to use. Its very easy to create simp[le preset dvd but if you want total control over what its gonna look like in the end like if you want it to loop continiously and if you want to set the bitrate manually to allow the most content on your dvd than its pretty difficult to use. I am thinking of roxio in particular but any program that is going to automatically encode your avi as an mpeg-2 has these issues.
