export to dvd error

When I try and export my timeline to dvd it gives this error:
Disc Capacity too small, hit OK to continue with record.

After I hit OK, the drive ejects the disc and it says onscreen: Couldn't complete the operation. Device Error, synth code 5305. Cannot write medium, incompatible format-write (DVDerr, 339973)

I am using DVD+RW, is the RW a problem with Premiere Pro?
thanks
jeff

Jeff,
Are you using new never-before-used DVD+RWs? I've run into problem with DVD+RWs between a standard PC DVD burner and one of my DVD recorders. If I format the DVD+RW on a PC, the DVD recorder will tell me it has a bad format. If I format the disc on the recorder, a PC will not read it and tell me it has a bad format. How about your discs?

They are memorex DVD+RWs and they've worked before when burning using other programs. Should i just try using a different type of disc?

No, if you've only used the discs on your PC, the problem I described would not apply. If you have another type of burnable DVD handy, it never hurts to try but I doubt that alone is the problem. I've used DVD+RWs before although not directly with Premiere. I normally use Encore for making DVDs.

A quick google on the error number brought up as instance where background tasks were causing this error although it did not say what program was the culprit. Do you have any DVD/CD-related programs that are running in the background or maybe starting up when you login? Any programs that might take the place of the normal Windows auto-start?

-Dan

When you insert blank recordable media it can trigger your burning program to start in the background. This can be a conflict with your foreground application (Premiere).

What I would recommend is that you insert the DVD in the recorder before you startup Premiere. If you find that a program auto starts based upon the DVD insertion, you can terminate the program and with the disc still in the tray, start Premiere. Now when you invoke the DVD burn from Premiere, you won't have a background task trying to access the same hardware.
