Export settings -- need advice

Hello gentlemen,

I’m new to this forum, and am hoping that your expertise might be able to help me solve a little problem.

After several years of working on our little filmmaking hobby, our magnum opus is ready to be exported from the rickety old computer that we’ve used to edit it—believe me, this thing is on its last legs!

My plan is this: We export the timeline in such a way as to avoid any compression at all, and then use that file (the runtime is almost 2 hours long, so I expect it’ll be a big one!) for color correction and up-rezing, all on a shiny new computer.

First off, does this seem like a sound plan to you?

Secondly, I am not well-versed in the intricacies of video formats, so what would you recommend by way of export settings, in order to achieve this new master file?

Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 project settings
DV playback 23.976 fps
720x480
D1/DV NTSC (0.9)
Progressive Scan
24 fps timecode
DV 24p advanced
Microsoft DV AVI
This is all I could glean from the settings window. The 24p advanced setting is special to the Panasonic DVX100 camera, or at least it was in the profile.

We would all be extremely grateful for any advice!

Install the Lagarith or UT codecs. They're free. Start with a Microsoft AVI, and in the Video tab choose the newly installed Lags or UT as the Codec.

Both are lossless, so there will be no further compression applied.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the quick reply, and for the advice! We'll definitely give that a shot, and I'll post back with the results. Thanks!
