Export Quicktime Conversion takes ages and ages

Someone told me that compressing DV takes 1 1/2 times the length of the clip to render?

It taking me 25 minutes to compress a 1 minute clip!

I am on a very fast mac computer and I don't see the problem. I must be doing something wrong?

This is how I'm exporting...

Export > QuickTime Conversion

Format: QuickTime Movie
USE: Broadband - High

What sort of video are you trying to make? Something for the Web? You might try Export to Compressor. You have a lot more intuitive controls and options in there.

It usually takes around an hour to compress a 6 min clip on my G5 using the same method... so that sounds about right. Are you using H.264?

It's a lot of work for software/hardware to smash all that info into a nice, small, clean package.

"Raw QuickTime Movie" using what codec? "QuickTime" is only a label, it contains a library of codecs. What codec is this "raw QT" movie formatted in?

Formating time depends on: CPU speed, hard drive set up, Original Format, Destination Format, other apps running at the same time.

So the comment "compresing DV" is pretty lacking in info. Compressing a QuickTime DV format file into what codec?

He said he used "Broadband High" which uses H.264. H.264 even on my Core 2 Duo with 2gb RAM takes bloody ages to export, so those times are probably about right! Worth every second though because it compresses beautifully.

File > Export > QuickTime Movie (default settings). That is how I normally export to other apps like DVD Studio Pro and what I consider Raw QT. Maybe I'm using the wrong terminoligy for it.

The file was being Exported / QT Conversion / QuickTime / Broadband-High. Sorry for your pretty big "lacking" in reading the previous posts. :kali:
