Export Issue

I shot a short film on the HVX-200 w/p2 card for a youtube contest. The aspect ratio of the footage is 960x720. The footage looks excellent on FCP 6, however, when I export it to quicktime to upload on youtube the image becomes squished in from the sides. I know this must have something to do with aspect ratio miscomunications and I'll probably need to use letterbox or some type of cropping.

Can anyone direct me as to how I go about solving this issue? I appreciate rapid response, as the deadline is fast approaching. Thanks in advance.

This has to do with the DVCPro HD codec. Its something weird that Panasonic has done with their codec. I don't get the reasoning behind it. Anyway, if you export using Compressor it should do it okay for you. Just go straight from your edited timeline to compressor.

The other option is, once you've made your quicktime movie file, open it up in Quicktime player, then go into the Movie Properities and the video track property and you can tell it there to play it back at 1280x720. Then when you close QT it will ask you to save changes, hit yes.

cheers.

ok i tried those tips, when i used compressor it still squished it, when i altered teh quicktime settings it worked but then when i loaded it onto youtube is squished it right back down.

I think that some sort of letterboxing will be necessary but I cant seem to figure out how to do it.
