export is shorter/faster than timeline

I am very confused. I have a 35 minute timeline that I am trying to export for dvd. when i use ME to do this and i select mpeg2-dvd, and no matter what parameters i use, whether the standard without any changes, or if i try to adjust for higher quality, the output file is shorter in time than the original timeline. It is a 29.97 timeline, and I am exporting to 29.97 but the resulting m2v file comes out to anywhere from 25 to 29 minutes. the closest I have gotten is around 33 minutes. Why isn't it coming out to exactly the same length? I don't think anything is missing from the output, but i think it is just playing back a little faster. All of this is in CS6. Any ideas? Thanks!

Are you sure you're rendering the entire work area, and is the work area sized accurately? In the render window you'll see the option to render the work area and it will also show you the time right there.

yes. I am sure I am exporting the entire timeline. it shows the full length of the project, and though i am telling it to render the workarea, i do have the work area selected to the entire length. each time i do this with different settings it comes to different lengths. there must be some setting that i am missing that will end up with the proper length. I have had other problems with ME cs 6. Maybe i will try it with CS5 if i can figure out how to get premiere cs 6 to send it to ME cs5

aarrgghh!!! ok. it turns out i didnt even have a problem. when i was looking at the m2v file (video only) in windows media player, and even checking the file size in windows explorer, it was coming in at different lengths. but when i put the m2v file and the wav audio file on a timeline in Encore the times are right for both. So although I seem to be all ok now, this is still baffling to me. can anyone explain this?

I was going by the time indicator in Windows Media Player when I play the video only file - the M2V. If i scroll to the end of the video, it shows a shorter time than the original timeline. Also, if i list the files in the folder in Windows Explorer it gives the date, file size, etc. and also it will show the duration of the media, which is also shorter than I would expect. The wav files are the right length but the video files show up as shorter. But as soon as I import them as assets into Encore, the video and wav files are reported by Encore as the same - proper - length. I think that is weird, and I cannot account for it. I'm sure I am missing something basic in my understanding of how all these files work.

Seems to be a windows bug!
I just transcoded a 18 minutes video to m2v and windows shows it 12:44
But the file is correct and shows up fine in all editing tools or alternative video players like media player classic.
I even got the same result with other encoding tools.

So i guess there is just someone at Microsoft having trouble with basic math :)
