Export from AE to FCP

hi everyone.....what is the best compression setting to export out of AE If I wanna throw back in fcp for more Editing.......there so many choices I'm not sure which one is the best one wihtout loosing any quality.......

It depends on the project settings in FCP. For D1 footage - QT uncompressed (none or animation). If you're working with DV footage then render out of AE using the DV codec, works well except when you need an alpha channel.

Recompressing will always loose some quality, so you shouldn't be doing FCP->AE->FCP things, unless you work in a lossless format like TIFF. Also you can clip the superwhites (IRE 110%) if you only export from YUV to RGB in FCP.

There are some problems in working in a FCP/AE workflow, hence the clipping one and exporting the cuts to AE for online.

Stu and Mike talked about these problems in their blogs.

If you don't mind loosing some quality for realtime capabilities, if your source footage is DV i would export back from AE in DV, so that at least you can keep your timeline fast. Or you can choose to change your timeline codec for something like DVCPRO50 which has lower color compression and is a easy-to-handle codec for FCP.

Anyway, im no expert and I hope this helps you a little. And i'm still trying to figure out a better workflow as well.

Cheers.

PS: if you don't have Stu DV rebel's guide, i recomend it. great book :)

I'm new to FCP and AE and i'm not sure how the workflow works... anybody know where I can get some workflow tutorial...
thanks
