Export footage with a transparent background?

I have been working on an animation in after effects, and I want to export it with no background.. that way I can import it into Final Cut and overlay it on top of some video footage. Is there a good technique for this?

When I export from AE there is a black background.. granted I can use a composite mode (like subtract or add etc) in FCP to get rid of the background, but it doesn't look as good this way and it takes forever to render.. Anyone know of a better way to do this??

What have you tried so far?
I recommend exporting as a quicktime file with PNG codec.

Use the render queue to output your files. Select a codec (such as quicktime animation) that supports an alpha channel. Set the colors to millions +.
