Export 24pa error?

Adobe Premiere Pro failed to return a video frame. Cancelling the operation.

I've tried to export a 24pa timeline to mpeg-2 for dvd and i keep getting this error message.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Phil

Re: Export 24pa error?

That's a problem I've encountered also.

Here's a quick fix:

1. Export your timeline as an avi (if on Windows, quicktime if on Mac) and reimport the flattened file into your project.

2. Create a new timeline with the flattened file and export that to MPEG format.

That should work.

Re: Export 24pa error?

Hmmm, don't know. I usually create high quality mpegs...you might want to adjust some of the settings to see if that makes a difference. Nothing looked wrong with your settings so I suspect the problem may be a little deeper. If it were me, I'd just fiddle with the settings and see what happens.

Not very technical advice, I'm afraid :D

Re: Export 24pa error?

I had the same problen until yesterday. The problem arose after I upgraded to 1.5 and recently Windows XP SP2. I got this off of Adobe.com. Here's the solution:

Error "...failed to return a video frame..." occurs when you export MPEG files (Premiere Pro 1.x)
Issue
When you try to export an MPEG file using the Adobe Media Encoder, Adobe Premiere Pro returns the error "Adobe Premiere Pro failed to return a video frame. Canceling the operation."
Solutions

Do one of the following solutions:
Solution 1: Rename the Adobe Premiere Pro executable file.
Rename Adobe Premiere Pro.exe.
Note: Under certain circumstances, Premiere Pro 1.0 may become unstable if you rename Adobe Premiere Pro.exe. There are no issues known to occur if you rename Adobe Premiere Pro.exe with Premiere Pro 1.5.
To rename Adobe Premiere Pro.exe:
1. Locate Adobe Premiere Pro.exe. The default location is Program Files\Adobe\Premiere Pro 1.x.
Note : By default, Windows doesn't display filename extensions it recognizes. If the .EXE file extension isn't visible, configure Windows to display all file extensions. See "Display hidden files and folders" in Windows Help for instructions.
2. Right-click Adobe Premiere Pro.exe and choose Rename.
3. Rename Adobe Premiere Pro.exe to Premiere Pro.exe.
Solution 2: Change the affinity setting for the Adobe Premiere Pro.exe process to use only one CPU.
1. Start Adobe Premiere Pro.
2. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and then click Task Manager.
3. Click the Processes tab.
4. Right-click the process Adobe Premiere Pro.exe, and then choose Set Affinity.
5. Deselect all CPUs except the first CPU listing (CPU 0) and then click OK.
6. Quit the Task Manager.
Note : The affinity setting only remains active until you quit Adobe Premiere Pro, at which time it returns to the default setting.
Solution 3: Disable hyperthreading in the system BIOS.
Refer to the computer or motherboard documentation for information on entering and modifying the system BIOS.
Background Information
Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 includes updates designed to improve window and menu handling in Premiere Pro 1.0. This special code is no longer required for Premiere Pro 1.5, and may cause issues with the Adobe Media Encoder. Renaming Adobe Premiere Pro.exe prevents the code from activating.

Hope this helps...

Re: Export 24pa error?

Simply renaming Adobe Premiere Pro to Premiere Pro.exe did the trick for me. GOod luck

Re: Export 24pa error?

It worked, thanks very much, i was wondering what you use or knew what would be the best settings to export mpeg2-dvd.

Thanks

Level: Main Level

Frame Height [pixels]: 480
Bitrate Encoding: CBR
Bitrate [Mbps]: 9.0000 (medium quality)
M Frames: 3
N Frames: 15

These settings work well for me.

Re: Export 24pa error?

Thanks I'm putting out a dvd, doing it diy and the only thing that im seeming to have trouble with is that with some dvd players, it plays the dvd 4:3 stretched, I shot in squeeze when i was filming and with other dvd players it plays fine. So when i go into the setup of the dvd player and have it set to 4:3 letter box it plays it fine. If it is set to 4:3 panscan or 16:9 it stretches it back out. So im I just going to have to tell people to make sure their dvd players are set to 4:3letter box for it to play right?

Thanks,
Phil

Re: Export 24pa error?

on a 4:# TV->

4:3 letterbox should letterbox the 16:9 material, and show it in full width in the center of the screen .

4:3 pan + scan should show it full screen and cut off the sides which only shows the center of the image in the proper proportions  on the 4:3 tv

16:9 should show it squeezed like it is in the lcd when your shooting becuase it thinks its playing it on a 16:9 tv, but since your tv is 4:3 its squished horizontally , and not widend out to normal by a 16:9 display

..this is normal , and would do the same thing with ANY 16:9 DVD.  you have to have your DVD player set up to play movies back the proper way on your TV..the player doesnt know what sort of tv its hooked up to. so you need to tell it how you want it to handle the display of the different aspect ratios.
