Experimental Piece

Looks pretty nice, polished. I've always been a fan of white graphics. I will say the fire didn't quite sell in my opinion. I could make out the lack of dimension.

You should look into Trapcode's Sound Keys, if you haven't already. Just be sure not to tell anyone that you've used it, because apparently people are getting sued for that by some nutjob!

I really like it. I wish I could do thing like that. Did you learn it by yourself playing with AE or you read books or had classes?

Lookin good! I'm also a fan of white space. I see someone's a trapcode fan eh? ;)

Keep us posted as it comes along

Yeah Doug I read that about soundkeys somewhere but I think it only applies to time remmapping a clip. Ronik all self taught, best way to learn a program in my opinion is dive in that way you learn at your own pace and discovering things seems to sink in better than simply robotically reading from a book (at least it does for me) oh and head over to the cow www.creativecow.net they have 100's of free After effects tutorials (this is also how I learnt) take a tutorial and pick it apart see how its guts work.
With AE or any package for that matter its just a question of timing and keyframes if its a piece of music driving a video listin to it how does it make you feel if you close your eyes you can almost visualize the music, it's pulses and beats (helpful when narrative editing) apply how you want your visuals to match, if its a narrative piece (when your editing) how do you want the viewer to react, think about binary opposites eg slow, fast, hot, cold, scared, happy, big, small etc. these are things that help me, if you love it youll keep at it (sometimes I cant sleep at night beacuse im thinking of things this would look good here that there etc) but sometimes don't overanalyze stuff as well it can give you burnout know when to walk away from your desk and go for a walk or read a book and then come back to the work with a fresh perspective and maybe some new ideas. Also try not to get caught up in the whole wow that looks good let me try and emulate his or her work, while its good for practice that time would be better spent developing your own style. It kinda pisses me off sometimes in the DVX clips section when people go woah yeah that looks really cool, ok maybe it does but how does it make YOU FEEL. I could stare at a blank screen as long as I got from it the emotion the director intended over any glitzy video that doesnt emotionally effect me. That in my opinion is harder to do than making something look pretty seems everything is style over content these days, in the old days of graphitti this was (and still is I think) called biting someones style and is extremly frowned upon. These are things that help me adapt them for yourself.
P.S. Its taken me two years to learn After Effects and I still dont know Java script yet so there's still more to learn.
Woaah am I rambling sleep deprivation will do that to you, I have started meditating recently and I think the whole zen thing is spilling over into my work.
Kai yep im a total trapcode whore I love their plugins in fact I think they should come as standared in AE there that good.

I think it is coming along nicely. The fire at the end is somewhat distracting though. The color, non gemoetric aspect, and movement of it throws off the feel. Can you create the fire or establish the mood you want the fire to evoke using something based in shapes and grayscale? Something very 2D, almost an lllustrator file animated. I think that would look good, and maintain the continuity you have built to that point.

The flow of it is great.

Subtle and expressive at the same time.

the move of that round circle balck and white thing. (when the something turns to be floor) is a bit undynamic. but it is cool. I like the fire. is it a 3D software's fire?

Yeah i know surf still gotta smooth out the key frames for it a bit. I dont really have anything in mind for it just thought it might be a nice piece to add to my showreel show off my motion graphic skills. Knocked it up in about 3 hours last night. No the fire is stock footage from somewhere might be artbeats, I seem to amass piles and piles of stock footage from CD covers on magazines so I thought i might as well use it.

nicholas, Sound Keys isn't only for time remapping... all it does is generate data based on what you tell it to interpret. Then you can use that data for anything. I've used it to do quick-n-dirty lip synching, to control the scale of objects, the color, all sorts of stuff. They have examples on the site as well.

I have never had luck getting sound keys to remap time properly. I can get it to flick backwards of forwards quickly, but not determine different forward or backward speeds, I'v tried the different switch settings, but nada.

Just watched it again, and at 11 seconds, when the bass drum kicks in, would it be possible to freeze the particles where they are on the frame and rotate them clockwise, kinda a bullet time look?

I know what sound keys does Doug I was reffering to this in conjunction to your previous post about using soundkeys http://www.trapcode.com/US_SK_advisory.html

bloody weird if you ask me, yes sound keys can come in extremely useful at times for all sorts of things but i didn't use it in this example all good old fashioned hand keyframing.

Could try that Rapier but I'm not sure if you can rotate just the camera this way around the particles or wether its just the particles that move or both.

I know it can be done cause iv'e done it before just not sure what order it goes in.

cool. I am very, cool :) I have found sound keys working. It is very good because a I am going to make a music video!!!!!!!! :)

ahh, gotcha. Misunderstood you.

to do the bullet time thing I think you would keyframe "Physics Time Factor" to 0 to halt all motion, then rotate your normal comp camera. I've never tried it but it seems like it would work.

Yeah I think thats how I remember doing it trouble is my comp cam is right up there on the Z axis (hence the blur on the particles as the cam tracks towards them at high speed) and would n't be easy to rotate around the particles.

If you could do it, it could really enhance it.

Might look cool, might not. Seems like it would bring you in more.

Might try that rapier have the paticles freeze cam circle around then have the paticles vibrate and shatter. For the circles i might have the fire time remap back into itself so it looks like its getting sucked back into the hole and as this happens the circles freeze and shatter from the centre of the hole outwards along the flat plane of the circles a disc at a time till they drop down in space the camera follows the falling paticles down wards then they move at 90 degrees to the cam and seem to get sucked off into space as the cam follows them on the next section.

All I can say is "Holy Shark Repellant Batman". (that means it was really cool in my book).

How, may I ask, did you do the liquid drops? Ive always wanted to do that.

If by the liquid drops you mean the stream of particles it was done with trapcodes particular, the particles were set wayyyyy back in zspace then I turned on motion blur for the paticles layer and moved my comp camera really fast on the z axis to give it some physical prescene and motion.
