I'm one of the part-time professionals. I do fairly regular freelance work, but I also have another regular part-time job to help pay the bills.

That’s the hardest decision I have had to make for a while. Where do I fit into this ??? …? I became interested in Video in the 1970’s when I had the opportunity to do a Video production course with the Govt. Dept. I was working for. We had Sony shoulder mount cameras (Can’t remember model) & a very heavy ¾” Umatic Recorder hanging off your other shoulder, if you couldn’t get somebody to carry it for you. We had Sony Editing Suite etc.(all Umatic) I made about six training Videos, some of which are still in use. I didn’t buy a camera of my own until about six rears ago when I retired. Though always had the bug & read a lot etc. Bought DVX six months ago, use Canopus Edius to edit & Sonic Smartsound for sound track music, have done weddings , parties etc, Ceremonial Parades, holidays of course & have counted more than sixty tapes & DVDs on my shelf that I have Shot, Edited & put to tape or DVD. Sometimes I feel advanced & sometimes I feel like a real DRONGO. :-/

You can tell how long someone has worked in the digital effects industry by the color of thier first SGI. You could do something similar by asking what was the first kind of camera and format.
