Not sure if this has been brought up in prior threads, but sometimes things are just fubarred.
A director named Paul Shrader was the first to direct the prequel for The Exorcist. But he made it a character based drama and Morgan Creek wanted an all out horror. So even though the film was completed, they put it on the shelf and hired Renny Harlin to direct a more amped up version, both starring the same lead actor Stellan Skarsgard.
Thus last summer and currently a new release in your local video store we have the piece of crap Exorcist the Beginning or something like that. The movie totally stunk it up at the box office and was carved by critics and basically anyone stupid enough to go watch it.
Now, Morgan Creek has decided they might as well release the original guys movie... it's just sitting on the shelf gathering dust, so what the hell.
Interesting marketing ploy to say the least. Same studio releasing 2 versions of the same film a year apart... look for a DVd with both versions sometime in the near future.
The weird keeps getting weirder.
