Excited to start writing a new feature

I just had to share a bit of excitement here on dvxuser. I am within a few days of starting FADE IN on a new feature screenplay, a long journey ahead to be sure. I have not one but two fully outlined stories, sequenced using Kate Wright's 12 step sequence method, then written up as 10 page narrative summaries/treatments. I am going to register the treatments online today with the LOC Copyright Office, then run the treatments past a few friends for feedback, and past my paid mentor scriptwriting consulting who will work with me start to finish on this, to pick one of the two stories to go with for now.

Looking forward to seeing the characters come 'alive' on the pages, arc, and find romance amidst horror and danger (both stories are horror, one is a creature horror-- a creature never before seen on film, the other more of a supernatural horror). Oh well, thanks for letting me share my excitement here!

Thank you dp. Took awhile just coming up with the story concepts, went through a brainstorm list of story ideas before deciding. I think it helped to just come up with a dozen story ideas and then narrow that down before sequencing (and answering some questions a la Rob Turin).

I took a break from screenwriting but now I'm putting my focus into a feature I feel pretty good about. I just need to chisel out one major plot point and I can move on from where I am. Best of luck to you!

hey good luck randall

ive written more than a few shorts but have been working on my first feature for a few months. it's a fun experience so far.

Thank you all for the encouragement. I sent my two treatments off to my mentor today, will get her feedback soon on which story to go with (or neither if they both stink!).

Congrats Randall. The creature sounds interesting. Glad to see someone that isn't just falling back on standard old zombies or vampires for their monster. Are these only specs or are you going to be producing/directing one of them yourself as well?

Either way, good luck and godspeed old chap... or something along those lines.

My original plan was for the creature horror to be a spec to sell, and the supernatural horror to be a script I would indie produce; still might happen. But who knows, I might sell either or both (I can dream, LOL), or indie produce either or both. So I am going to write one for now as if it is a spec script, make it shine good enough to sell, and if the gods declare it I will indie produce it myself if all things fall into place.

You might try both ways, hopefully one avenue or another will work out. If it sells, then there you go. If not, then you have a little creature feature to play with and see what you can do with it in the market place and festivals. Overall, sounds very exciting! :)
