Hello guys. I just finished my quick review of the SGblade on my EX1. I also did a sharpness comparison with the Extreme. You can read the review here:

I'm hoping to get out this week to shoot some video with the Blade.

Great review Damon. I'm trying to figure out why you can't stop down below f4.0 on the SGBlade, whereas the Letus Ultimate lets you stop way down? Is this what other SGBlade users have found? Both adapters use a spinning ground glass setup, could it be that the Ultimate spins faster? It seems like you didn't see a difference between GG types as far as seeing grain, correct?

Nice review, Damon.

Dino, to compare with the Ultimate you need to compare the SGblade with ROTOrazor 1 which allows you to stop down to F22. RR1 is made of glass with a fine grain structure and is the most comparable to the ground glass in the Ultimate in terms of lightloss, bokeh and grain.

ROTOrazor 2 & 3 have larger grain structures but different attributes (better bokeh and lower lightloss).

Great review, very comprehensive. I wonder why your Extreme wouldn't let you stop down past f2.8. I stop down to f4 regularly on all my lenses and it works just fine. I can even use f5.6 occasionally if I'm not looking into a clear sky.

FWIW I can stop down on my SGPRo with the RR2 to about an 8/11 if I'm not looking into a blue sky or an evenly light flat surface like a wall etc. On my old Letus EX it was closer to 4 and blue skies were an issue even at a f2.

Thanks guys. There isn't much info out there regarding the Blade on an EX1. I hope the review helped shine some light on the issue. I just went out yesterday with the Blade and shot all day with mostly f/4 and some with f/5.6 (on the Nikon lenses). I viewed the footage later and noticed no spinning grain structure. I should of tried an f/8 shot, but thought I was pushing it with f/5.6. Well, I'm thrilled with being able to shoot at f/5.6! I guess the worse case scenario for the Blade regarding limited f-stop is indoors with low light on white surfaces. (I'll try to get the video up by this weekend which all was shot using RR3.)

Huy Vu, it was your posts and your shorts that had me looking elsewhere in the first place. When I saw you mention that you were shooting at f/4, I knew right away either my Extreme was defective or I was doing something wrong. And believe me, I spent a year trying to experiment with different tweaks to allow f/4 shooting. (By the way, your stuff is great!)
