EX1 confusion

Hello.
I'm a little confused about shooting with the Ex1 with an adaptor attached.

Do i need the new achromat from the manufacturers if i shoot with a non-flipped unit ?

If i shoot with the flip attached, does it include the achromat already ?

The new achromat is to get a more sharp and good edge-to-edge image right ?

Sorry but i got confused after reading alot of posts and information on this issue!

Thanks!

The EX1 has problems becasue it has such a large sensor. Wayne at Shoot35 has developed a new achromat for the EX1 and SGpro. Im not sure if the EX1 works on all other adapters, but with the new achromat it will certainly work with the SGpro.

It is impossible to fix a curved focus plane with an achromat! You can get the camera into a lower zoom range with a stronger achromat, where the issue may be less prevalent, but the nature of the beast is that a curved focus plane simply cannot be addressed this way. This is why you will never see an achromat fix from us. Current users of the MP.1 or REV2 are using an EX1 zoom setting of z72 or lower, and adding a slight zoom/crop in post (3%). Our EX1 fix is in final testing..and users will continue to use their current achromat and flip unit exactly as is.

Thanks guys!

Dennis, nonetheless your flip module does include an improved achromat right ? So if i shoot with a brevis + flip i will see an improvement on the EX1 ? If not an improved achromat what will your EX1 fix include if I may ask ?

What about the M2 ? Does the M2 without flip require another achromat and what about the MicroX ?

Letus make it clear on their site that you need the EX1 kit and ring. That was easy figuring out!

Our flip achromat is and remains a single unit optimized for maximum contrast, and very little CA and spherical aberration. This is why the Brevis flip system works so well on every cam out there, except for the EX1 at zoom levels beyond Z72. For this case, our EX1 solution does not require any changes to our optics, and when released, will be as easy to install or remove (for use with everything else) as one of our interchangeable imaging elements. Cost is projected at $130.

Let me stress again that an "optimized" achromat to fix a curved focus plane issue is not possible. If it's consistently soft on a series of cams, it's a design issue with the achromat.

Dennis,

I will invest in the upgrade/fix for the EX1. Let us know when it is available.

Will I be able to upgrade the other Brevis updates as well (microprocessor)? I want to do everything at the same time.
