EX1 audio has 2 channels, but imported as 1 track.

Hey there,

I'm using Premiere CS5.5 to edit some EX1 footage for the first time (as in editing EX1 footage for the first time. Been on the DVCPROHD platform for a while). The footage was shot at 1080 30p on the EX1, MP4 file format. I use several different XDCAM EX 1080 30p timeline and while the video is fine, I'm only getting 1 track of audio. Both L and R are on the same track. I asked the shooter and he said there should be 2 but he is not familiar with Premiere. Can you guys point me to the right direction in getting the audio to show p as 2 tracks?

Thanks

Premiere is defaulting to treating the audio as stereo...to change this, make sure the footage isn't currently on a sequence (this is something you want to do right after you import the footage), select the clips in the project tab, right click go to "Modify" and click "Audio Channels". This will bring up a dialog that lets you select how the audio is treated, including as separate mono tracks.

Done! Thank you both of you!

You can also change the default behavior in Edit>Preferences>Audio>Source Channel Mapping. I believe that is correct...

While we're on the subject, how do I get the source/preview monitor to play back both channels of audio in a clip? Whenever I play back DVCPro, AVC-I, or any clip with two separate mono tracks as opposed to one stereo track, it will only play back channel 1 instead of both. It gets to be a bit annoying when I have two people in different channels and they aren't being picked up by each other's mics... I can't hear whomever is in the second channel, and I've never been able to figure that one out.

I believe the Source Monitor will only play back track 1, be it mono or stereo. The solution in your case may be to record a stereo track, not two mono tracks.

Hmmmph... not the answer I wanted (but the one I suspected).

[edit] Thanks, I think I'm going to fill out the feature request form for this.
