I've fired up this thread and will be updating it with footage from our EX1 "fix kit" modified Brevis MP.1.
To start, in our baseline testing with the bare camera, resolution at the corners is at least 100 lines better from f5.6 to f8. Blow up one of the corners of these grabs to see the difference. Mode was 1080 24p HQ, aperture at f5.6 vs f8 and shutter speed adjusted to keep exposure showing at about 50% We adjusted the frame grabs for brightness so they're equal.

Here's a grab from the Brevis, with the EX1 at f5.6 (compare it to the bare EX1 fix at f5.6!) and a Nikon 17mm-35mm f2.8 zoom at f2.8. These are not the final optics so expect better yet
WB should have been redone for this grab, but wasn't...hence the hue change. We'll do more testing at f5.6
